One of my favorite treats to make is the Greek pastry Baklava.  Nuts and honey and butter…yum.  I enjoy making it because it’s so therapeutic.  Buttering sheets of phyllo pastry and sprinkling a nut mixture, more butter, more nuts, more butter, nuts, honey, honey, honey.  The end result is a delicious buttery, nutty, and honey mixture with ultra thin pastry sheets.  This obviously can take some time because of all the layering and buttering.

I’ve recently discovered a really-easy-not-so-involved way of making baklava with pre-made mini Fillo (Phyllo) Tart Shells.  You mix the ingredients and spoon it into the shells.  Then eat ’em.  One bowl, no baking.  Pretty easy right?

The premade fillo shells come in a box of 15 mini shells.  The following recipe calls for three (3) boxes so this recipe makes 45 baklava tarts in about five minutes, well okay, maybe ten minutes. I usually find the fillo shells in the grocery freezer in the dessert section.

Six ingredients…

Mix together in a bowl:

1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon lemon juice

3/4 cup Honey

½ cup butter – melted

2 cups chopped walnuts

After it’s mixed together, drop by spoonfuls into the phyllo shells

That’s it.  Just like I said…easy.

Here it is again…no pictures

EASY BAKLAVA

1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon lemon juice

¾ cup honey

½ cup butter – melted

2 cups chopped walnuts

3 packages of mini fillo (Phyllo) shells

Mix the first 5 ingredients in a bowl.  Drop by spoonfuls into the fillo shells.

Try them when you get a chance. They’re pretty darn good for a quick fix of baklava.
